T-Shirt Hacking: how to renew, recycle and resize t-shirts

Some time ago my daughter begged me to buy her a T-shirt with a design from the anime Noragami. We ordered online two of them in the smallest size available. Unfortunately the T-shirts turned out to be way too large for a little girl like her, therefore I had to think about a radical solution to let her wear the shirt design she loved. So I just physically transferred the front part of the oversized T-shirt to another one (an old and plain one) which was just the right fit and needed to be renewed.

This is my super-easy tutorial about T-shirt renewing, recycling and resizing in few steps.

Step 1) Choose the design you want to transfer

Step 2) Cut out a rough rectangle (containing the illustration) from the T-shirt.

Step 3) Lay your fabric right side down, lay an interfacing fusible (which will give more rigidity to the piece of cotton and make it easier to work with) and iron it on (without gliding).

Step 4) Choose the T-shirt you want to renew and iron it carefully

Step 5) After cutting into shape the rectangle of fabric (stiffened by the interfacing), pin it on the T-shirt. Then, sew it all around the edges.

You can sew around the plain edges or even add a lace ribbon all around them.

Here we are: the final outcome. Not too bad, is it?

These “hacked” T-shirts are very easy to make, are totally durable and grant a clothing that is 100% unique and original.
